THE DONKEY BOYS POEM GRADE- IX
Summary
The poem written by
Albert Rowe talks about the pathetic condition of two boys from Spain. They are
called ‘The Donkey Boys’ instead of ‘The School Boys’ i.e. students as they go
to the seashore with their donkey. Once in the early morning, the writer saw
them in the scorching sun collecting driftwood. When the boys saw the writer
they waved and smiled at him and again became busy in their work. They were
collecting light sticks for bedding sorting out of the driftwood. The white
donkey stood there without moving and its eyes and ears were sleepy. The donkey
was carrying a large basket that was to be filled by the sticks. The donkey followed
them quietly as well when they moved collecting the sticks.
One day the writer saw
them passing the school riding on their donkey. Children were playing in the
ground but the boys did not give attention to them but kept on riding to the
sea with their beautiful and innocent smile.
