Summarry and questions of peom Patrioism
Summary of the Poem
The poem composed by a Scottish poet Sir
Walter Scott appeal everyone to be patriotic. Somewhere in the country lives a
man with his soul and conscience so dead although he is alive, who has never in
his life said to his own country that this is his own, his native land. His
heart has never burnt within himself while his footsteps are returning to his
home from a long wandering foreign land. If such a man exists, then we should
mark him well. There should not be songs of an expression of excessive delight
for them sung by a wondering poet and musician. Though he may be proud of his
name and earn high titles of fame and position, his wealth is boundless as
anyone may wish to claim, yet in spite of those high titles, unlimited power
and money such wretched soul concentrated all in himself. Finally, he will lose
his fair renowned living, and die twice: body and soul like a dust from where
he came into existence. There will be no one to weep for him, no one to honour
him and no one to sing praises of him.
